The Antec Signature Series offers faster response times, hybrid cable management, high-tech cooling

Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, NV - January 8, 2008 - Antec, Inc., the leading global brand of high-performance computer components for the PC upgrade and Do-It-Yourself markets, today announced the Signature Series, its newest and most advanced family of power supply units.

Available in 850 Watts and 650 Watts, the Signature Series features several cutting-edge innovations that set it above the competition, several of which have never been offered in a consumer power supply. The Signature Series utilizes active DC-to-DC voltage regulation as opposed to the standard passive magnetic amplifier method, providing for shorter transient responsetimes and greater system stability.

The Signature Series’ transient response times can be as low as 10 microseconds, in contrast to the standard power supply transient times of 1000 microseconds (1 millisecond). In addition, the Signature Series boasts an advanced cooling system with a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) fan. By adapting its speed to the power output of the unit,
a PWM controlled fan can run at speeds as low as 15% of its maximum, as opposed to a traditional fan, which can only run at about 40%, thus ensuring the quietest possible operation.

All Signature Series power supply units are built to the highest standards of quality, utilizing exceptionally reliable components such as Japanese capacitors and fans. The Signature Series also utilizes a dual power circuit board (PCB) layout to optimize airflow, as well as to allow for heavier and more robust components and reduce electrical noise. Each Signature Series power supply unit boasts a hybrid advanced cable management system to provide optimal power distribution and airflow.

Mandatory cables are hardwired to reduce resistance and energy waste, while the peripheral cables can be installed as needed, reducing clutter. Signature Series power supplies pass 80 PLUS®, the highest independently-certified standard in energy efficiency, reducing operating costs and protecting the environment. Universal Input enables Signature Series units to be used anywhere in theworld.

“The Signature Series is a truly premium product,” said Scott Richards, senior vice president at Antec. “The response capabilities, cooling system and hybrid advanced cable management are perfect for discerning builders looking for the very best. The Epson R1900 provides an unprecedented standard in glossy color photographic prints with its Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 ink featuring an improved Gloss Optimizer™ and new red and orange ink cartridges. The Epson R1900 is also raising the creative standard for print quality with the introduction of Radiance Technology, an innovation dramatically improving color transitions, resulting in brilliant, true-to-life photos.

“Innovation is an integral part of Epson’s design philosophy,” said Patrick Chen, product manager, Epson America Inc. “After a decade of leadership, our engineers continue to develop printers that significantly raise the creative standard. The Epson Stylus Photo R1900 is no exception with its UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 inks and Radiance Technology, innovations designed to help deliver optimum results for photographers and graphic designers.”

The Epson R1900 is the ideal productivity solution for customers looking for the best combination of image quality, speed and archivability on glossy and matte media up to 13-inches wide. The Epson R1900 will replace the Epson Stylus Photo R1800, the award-winning and No. 1-selling Epson 13-inch photo printer, and offers a vast array of improvements over its predecessor in ink technology, print quality and speed.

More about the EPSON Stylus Photo R1900

· New Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 Ink - Achieves an optimal level of gloss and color vibrancy in a pigment ink system using eight colors – including new red and orange inks – plus an enhanced Gloss Optimizer. The red and orange inks have replaced the red and blue inks found in the Epson R1800, resulting in improved color gamut and facial tones. This next generation pigment ink set produces quick-drying, archival results that can last up to 200 years under glass.1 Auto-switching photo and matte black cartridges ensure the deepest blacks on any media type.

· New Radiance Technology – The breakthrough mathematical architecture on the Epson R1900 was co-developed by color scientists at Epson and the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) to take advantage of the wider color gamuts possible with today’s advanced ink sets. The technology is built into the printer software and optimizes how the individual UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 inks are mixed while simultaneously providing a high level of print quality. This technology reduces grain and dramatically improves color transitions.

· Faster Print Speeds – Creates prints up to 35 percent faster than the Epson R1800, particularly at higher resolutions, boosting productivity for final layouts and sellable photographic images. Produces breathtaking 11” x 14” prints as fast as 1 minute, 46 seconds.2

· Superior Media Flexibility – Offers the same media versatility as the Epson R1800 with the ability to print on glossy, luster and matte medias as well as thicker fine art media, roll papers, canvas and directly onto inkjet printable CD/DVDs.

· Enhanced Connectivity – Allows two computers to simultaneously connect to the R1900 via two hi-speed USB 2.0 ports for seamless printing from either computer.

· Epson PreciseColor™ Manufacturing – Applies colorimetric calibration to the permanent MicroPiezo® print head at the factory through an enhanced manufacturing process, eliminating the need for internal calibration devices or constant calibration.

· Exceptional Reliability – Features a new ink-repelling coating on the print head that prolongs the life of the Epson R1900 and decreases maintenance time. A built-in sensor also allows for automatic print head alignment and nozzle checking.

Panasonic Raises the Bar for Reliable Mobile Computing with New Toughbooks

November 12, 2007 11:01 pm

7 series Toughbook notebooks real-world tested to withstand the drops, bumps and spills faced by truly mobile professionals; Panasonic’s history of engineering and building-in durability central to new ultraportable and thin-and-light systems

Secaucus, NJ, November 13, 2007 – Panasonic Computer Solutions Company, manufacturer of durable, reliable Panasonic® Toughbook® mobile computers, today introduced three new business-rugged notebook computers designed to meet the demands of mobile executives, walking workers and road warriors: the ultraportable W7, the tablet alternative T7, and the thin-and-light Y7.

The new suite of business computing solutions are based on Panasonic’s 15 year history of engineering and manufacturing robust notebook computers that deliver the durability, reliability and connectivity essential to keeping government and business professionals working wherever and whenever they need to.

“As business travelers’ reliance on their notebooks grows, a dimension of mobile computing coming into increasing focus is durability,” said Roger Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies Associates, Inc. “Not willing to pay a premium for a fully rugged notebook, most mobile executives still want a portable with some durability characteristics beyond those available in ordinary systems. Lightweight systems with good battery life and some ability to withstand drops, shocks and spills—‘business-rugged’ notebooks—will only rise in popularity over time.”

Built with the real-world challenges of today’s on-the-go user in mind, the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo-based W7, T7 and Y7 notebooks offer an ideal combination of the latest computing power, extremely light weight (from 3.0 to 3.7 lbs) and long battery life—all protected by proven durability that is engineered from the inside-out. Like all Toughbook notebooks, the business-rugged 7 series notebooks are drop- and spill-resistant, have strong magnesium alloy cases and chassis, shock-mounted hard drives and LCDs, and internal flexible connectors for additional protection.

In addition, the 7 Series business-rugged products offer a range of embedded wireless options for anytime, anywhere connectivity, including 802.11, Bluetooth 2.0 and optional high-performance built-in 3G mobile broadband solutions from AT&T (HSDPA), Sprint or Verizon Wireless (EV-DO Rev. A).

Business-rugged notebooks from Panasonic address a growing market need for PCs that are up to the challenges of mobility. In a November, 2007 Harris Interactive poll sponsored by Panasonic released yesterday, 42% of adult notebook users reported some form of mishap with their laptop, including knocking it against a hard surface (26%), dropping it (21%) or spilling something on it (15%). These findings are in line with research conducted in 2005 by IDC, which showed that dropping while carrying was the number one cause of accidental notebook damage. Liquid spills and falls from a table or desk rounded out the top three mishaps leading to accidental damage.

“People on the move can’t accomplish what they need to in work and life if they don’t have a reliable notebook they can count on to stay connected. The superior engineering of our light weight and durable business-rugged Toughbook notebooks protects against the inevitable drops, bumps and spills facing truly mobile users,” said Rance M. Poehler, president, Panasonic Computer Solutions Company. “While everyone is talking a good game about delivering more durable computing solutions, the double-digit average failure rates of most business notebooks are unacceptably high. Customers deserve better and Panasonic is raising the bar for reliability by making our wireless business notebooks durable from the inside out and backing that up with a three year warranty and round-the-clock US-based support.”

A Commitment to Innovation and Engineering Backed by Comprehensive Testing and Quality Control

Panasonic has long been an innovator in mobile computing. Among other milestones, the company was the first to integrate an optical drive—the world’s lightest—into a 12.1” notebook form factor. With the 7 series of Toughbook notebooks, Panasonic is breaking new ground with heat and power management technology.

In order to optimally run the more powerful Intel Santa Rosa processors in the small and lightweight 7 Series mobile PCs, engineers from Panasonic and Intel created a proprietary implementation of Dynamic Power Performance Management technology, designed to continually fine tune CPU usage based on system load and the tasks being performed. A new Hybrid Cooling System incorporates a compact fan design as well as a user-defined fan utility to help manage fan speed based on ambient conditions and the performance required. Combined, these new technologies help optimize system performance while preventing case overheating and extending battery life.

The new business-rugged Toughbook notebooks are also more durable than any other business notebook. They are drop-tested using both the MIL-STD-810F methodology common to rugged notebooks as well as additional Panasonic factory drop tests. Commonly misunderstood, mil-spec testing does not prescribe a specific drop height. Rather, it outlines a method by which units are dropped a total of 26 times, on every axis, onto plywood over steel over concrete. Fully-rugged Panasonic Toughbook notebooks are mil-spec rated to 36” (for both the unit and the hard drive), while the 7 series business-rugged Toughbook notebooks are mil-spec rated to 12” for the unit itself and 30” for the shock-mounted hard drive. An additional Panasonic drop-test requires that 7 series notebooks survive a 30” (just over the typical height of a desk or table) drop to the base of the unit while it is operating.

The unique Panasonic spill-through keyboard design protects against liquid spills of more than 6 ounces (200 cc), and both the lid and base of the notebooks are designed to withstand more than 220 lbs (100 Kg) of pressure. In addition, Toughbook notebook hinges are required to pass 50,000 cycles and keyboards are tested to withstand 25 million keystrokes. Panasonic’s commitment to quality—at both the component and finished goods level—results in a total of more than 500 checks and tests before, during and after production.

Kensington® Announces Portable, Simple and Reliable Notebook Power

9:14 pm

Redwood Shores, Calif. – June 12, 2007 – Kensington Computer Products Group, a worldwide leader in mobile computing accessories, today announced four additions to its popular “Power it” line of adapters for notebook computers and mobile devices. Three new notebook adapters and an auto power adapter that can be used with all leading mobile devices
demonstrate Kensington’s ongoing commitment to meeting the power needs of the mobile professional with solutions that are simple, compatible and reliable. The company is also announcing 11 USB Power Tips for powering and charging top-selling mobile and smartphones and MP3 players, including the iPod.

“These new products really cater to the consumer’s power needs. Based on our user research, we know that consumers are often overwhelmed by the selection process,” said Nica Graziotto, Senior Global Product Manager, Kensington. “Technical ‘power language’ is not easily understood; therefore, it can be challenging for consumers to identify which power accessory is right for them. This new product line is a direct result of our determination to keep it simple for consumers. We are announcing simple, compatible and reliable power solutions that work right out of the box and guarantee compatibility with your notebook.”

Kensington: Simplifying the Purchasing Process

The new notebook power adapters are offered in two versions: for wall and wall/auto/air usage. “These notebook power adapters include color-coded notebook tips that make set-up simple,” Graziotto said. “We’ve really eliminated the confusion that was traditionally associated with locating the right tip. Now, if the tip fits, it’s the right one, period.” The color coding is based on brand, not model. “According to our research, consumers don’t know model numbers. With our color coding, they don’t have to. An LED indicator lights up in the same color as the tip when they are compatible, matching the right tip to the notebook brand.
It’s a simple, easy-to-use system.”

The enhanced simplicity applies not only to set-up, however. The purchasing decision is also made easier, due to an easy-to-read chart and easy-to-understand terminology on the adapter package. For example, the electrical term “AC/DC” has been replaced with “Wall,” “Auto” and “Air.” In addition, confusing wattage ratings have been eliminated. “We are using common terms such as Wall, Auto and Air, accompanied by easily-understood icons.” As a result, Graziotto added, “We’ve made both selection and set-up a snap.”

A Unique Product Line to Meet the Consumer’s Growing Need for Power

These new power adapters are focused on meeting the core needs of the mobile consumer. The 10 included notebook tips ensure out-of-the-box compatibility with the top-selling notebook brands. The adapters with built-in USB power ports make it easier for the user to power up additional devices. With the adapter’s USB port, for example, the consumer can charge both a notebook and a mobile device simultaneously. “With a USB power port, the adapter becomes a one-stop power solution,” explained Graziotto.

• Kensington Wall/Auto/Air Notebook Power Adapter with USB Power Port (SKU K33403US): Not only does this power adapter work with your notebook, but it also powers your mobile devices, no matter where you are. This all-in-one design powers your notebook at your home/office, in the car or in the air. It also features a built-in USB power port for powering up additional devices with Kensington USB Power Tips (sold separately). Includes a wall plug, notebook power tips and a travel pouch. Suggested retail price: $139.99.

• Kensington Wall Notebook Power Adapter with USB Power Port (SKU K33402US): Providing reliable power for both notebooks and mobile devices, the adapter features a built-in USB power port for charging your mobile phone, smartphone, iPod, MP3 player and more, using Kensington USB Power Tips (sold separately). Includes a wall plug, notebook power tips and a travel pouch. Suggested retail price: $99.99.

• Kensington Wall Notebook Power Adapter (SKU K33404US): Like the other new Kensington notebook power adapters, this adapter features color-coded notebook tips, with LED verification, for simplified set-up. Also, because they are compatible with most leading notebooks, Kensington notebook power adapters provide the industry’s best compatibility. Includes a wall plug and notebook power tips. Suggested retail price: $79.99.

• Kensington Auto Power Adapter with USB Power Port (SKU K33418US): Compact, simple and easy-to-use, the Kensington Auto Power Adapter with USB Power Port plugs into a cigarette lighter to power your mobile devices in your car. Simply swap in a Kensington USB Power Tip (sold separately), and this space-saving power adapter can replace multiple chargers. Suggested retail price: $9.99.

The 11 new USB Power Tip packs make it easy to power mobile devices. Use them with the new Kensington notebook power adapters, the USB port on your notebook, or the Kensington Auto Power Adapter. Included are five power tip packs specifically for mobile phones, three tips for PDAs/smartphones, two for media players and one for entertainment/games. Each pack includes a retractable USB cable. Suggested retail price: $14.99.

The Kensington USB Power Tip packs support the following brands:
• Mobile phones – Motorola®, Nokia®, Samsung®, LG and Sony®
Ericsson
• PDAs/smartphones – Blackberry® and Palm®
• Media players – iPod® and Creative® MP3/media players
• Entertainment – Sony® PSP® and Nintendo® Game Boy®

The Kensington Wall/Auto/Air Notebook Power Adapter with USB Power Port (SKU K33403US), Kensington Wall Notebook Power Adapter with USB Power Port (SKU K33402US), Kensington Wall Notebook Power Adapter (SKU K33404US), Kensington Auto Power Adapter with USB Power Port (SKU K33418US), and 11 USB Power Tip packs will be available for pre-order at Amazon.com starting on June 12, 2007 and at all other resellers including Best Buy, Circuit City and Kensington.com in late June.

Advanced Media Inc. Brings Certified RIDATA Brand HD DVD-R and RW To the North American Market

June 5, 2007 8:40 pm

The Only Certified Taiwanese Manufactured HDDVD-R and RW Media

Diamond Bar, CA — June 4, 2007 — Advanced Media, Inc. is the manufacturer and marketer of the popular RIDATA brand of recordable DVD media, electronic storage products, and digital media accessories. Today, the company announced that parent company RITEK is the only Taiwan-based optical disc manufacturer to offer certified HD-DVD-R (recordable, write once) and HD DVD-RW (rewritable) media. Advanced Media will provide marketing, sales and distribution of the discs to the United States.

“What the certification means to consumers is that they can be assured that certified RIDATA HDDVD’s are a compatible, high quality HDDVD to purchase. Taiwan is a large supplier of DVD media to the U.S. Through our parent company RITEK and its enormous production capacity, Advanced Media can quickly respond to market demands in the shortest time possible. We will continue to leverage our competitive manufacturing advantages to provide U.S. consumers both Blu Ray and HDDVD discs at affordable prices,” stated Harvey Liu, president of Advanced Media Inc.

Because of the quick progression of formats and speeds in optical media, Ritek developed an internal manufacturing process named a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS). RITEK’s manufacturing capability for CD, DVD+R/-R/RW/ DL (single-sided double-layer) discs was helpful in quickly expanding current high end production lines to produce high quality recordable HDDVD’s and obtaining the certification.

The certified RIDATA brand HDDVD-R or RW discs are available for purchase now.
Volume production will begin in the second half of this year as more HDDVD drives enter the market and increase the demand for media.

The RIDATA HD DVD-R medium supports Advanced Access Content System (AACS) state-of-the-art AES cryptography. It was developed to overcome the shortcomings of the Content Scrambling System (CSS) found in DVD video. AACS enables authorized use, prohibits unauthorized copying and distribution, and repairs holes in copy protection.

Compared to current DVD technology, HD DVD offers state-of-the-art picture quality as well as superior features and functionality. Multiple audio and video streams, up to 7.1 channel surround sound, and more user-friendly graphical interfaces are just a few of these advancements.

The RIDATA HD DVD-R or RW optical discs are packaged in a single jewel case, and will be available through selected retailers, RIDATA distributors, and at various online outlets. As with all RIDATA products, both new blue laser media formats are competitively priced.

About Advanced Media (RITEK USA)
Advanced Media, Inc. is a subsidiary of RITEK Corporation, the world’s largest optical media manufacturer. Advanced Media is the sole North and South American marketer and distributor of the RIDATA brand of recordable CD and DVD media as well as other types of electronic storage media.

The RIDATA brand currently includes: CD-R/RW, DVD+/-R/RW, DL DVD+R/R, and DVD-RAM optical discs; Flash Memory Cards; USB drives; and MP3 players. Since its formation in 2001, Advanced Media has experienced phenomenal annual growth and is already a leading marketer of electronic storage products in the American market.

RITEK for years has been defining and redefining the optical storage market. Around the world, its name is synonymous with innovation, quality, and unparalleled consistency. Its QS 9000, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 9002, and Six Sigma certifications prove RITEK’s commitment to quality control.

SAMSUNG Develops Mobile Phone Memory Card with Record Storage Capacity

May 18, 2007 10:37 am

Seoul, Korea - May, 17, 2007: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced semiconductor technology solutions, today announced that it has developed an 8Gigabyte (GB) microSD (Secure Digital) memory card, a size optimal for today’s multimedia mobile phones. Featuring the highest capacity today for a microSD card, the new fingernail-sized card is capable of storing 2,000 MP3 music files, 4,000 digital photos, or approximately 5 DVD-quality movies.

SD cards, to date, have been largely used for data storage in digital still cameras and increasingly in televisions. MicroSD cards, which are a quarter the size of an SD card, are backward compatible with SD cards using an extender, to allow multimedia files downloaded by mobile phones to be easily displayed on other media.

With a read speed of 16 Megabytes (MBs) per second and a write speed of 6MB/s, Samsung’s 8GB microSD card well exceeds the Speed Class 4 SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) standard which requires a data write speed of 4MB/s. This is also much faster than the SD Speed Class 2 designation carried by most competing microSD cards currently on the market.

This achievement is the latest in a string of record-breaking improvements in flash memory cards for Samsung as it continues to aggressively pursue its goal of being the development leader for the SD card market, as well as the competing MMC (multimedia card) market.

The market research firm Dataquest predicts that the memory card market as a whole will average 10 percent annual growth between 2006 and 2010, while demand for high density 8GB cards will grow an average of 2.6 times per year over the same period. By 2010, the 8GB memory card will be the market mainstream in terms of units sold.
