Apple’s notorious “upgrade” of Final Cut Pro inspired Kernel Panic, a British filmmaker’s profanity-laced sci-fi short about a space commander’s maddening encounter with an artificially intelligent safety system.
“Recently, I’ve had some bad experiences,” said 37-year-old writer/director (and self-described technology fiend) Martin O’Leary in an e-mail to Wired. “Blimey, the things I could bang on about … crappy DVRs with sluggy UIs. Mobile phones that forget to announce an incoming call by, y’know, actually bloody ringing! MacBook Pros that burn out their motherboards by overheating.”
But the biggest tech fiasco for the filmmaker and freelance editor: “Apple canceling Final Cut Pro 7 and replacing it with the completely useless and unusable [Final Cut Pro X],” he said.
