Defense Department officials have recently been talking up the Joint Information Environment (JIE), which is one of their latest and most comprehensive ways to use IT to improve communications, reports FCW, a sister publication of Defense Systems.
“Hey, check with Apple. I think they forgot to put the phone in this one.”
The JIE is set to be compatible with mobile devices – but which ones? With the announcement of the new iPhone 5, a panel of DOD officials speaking Sept. 13 at an AFCEA DC event in Arlington, Va., indicated that high hopes for an Apple-enabled JIE could become a reality if the right security can be achieved.
