It’s a ploy! Microsoft released the beta early so we could all get a taste of an operating system so much worse, so much more restrictive than Vista that we’d all clamor to adopt Vista now rather than wait for (and prehaps bypass) Windows 7. Remember, 7 is a lucky number –for Microsoft– if this is indeed the plan. It’ll start making more money now. For us it’s going to be Windows Craps if we don’t grab the torches and pitchforks and march on Redmond.

Don’t you mean if “we don’t grab the Ubuntus and Fedoras and march on Redmond”?
Sorry, I didn’t mean to slight anybody else’s favorite flavor.
I’ve had a hankering to hold my Hunky Heron…
Other’n the tv restrictions, what’s up that is so bad?
There are some UI differences –which are never good after you’ve established and settled a UI but that’s something MS seems to do with every new version. I hate the pastels. This is a girl’s OS. Worse, it’s a Web 2.0 OS.
The video is my particular Ox and I don’t like it being gored. We should not be marching open-armed into the furnace of DRM and Broadcast Flags. For 20 years I’ve video taped TV programs. Now that we’re in the digital age do I have to drag out my VCRs again? (I have 2 Beta, 6 VHS left.) We’re getting rights, privileges, options, taken away in wholesale amounts and that should not be the case. Computers were supposed to enhance our freedom.
Fair enough on the video.
I noticed the pastels thing when I bucked up for Office 2007 Home and Student. But since the beta didn’t pick up my 3d card, you can turn off Aero and go back to the Win95 look, which I happen to be fond of anyway and use on XP.
I liked ME…
